ABOUT SOPHIA PELTON, PT, DPT, OCS

I became a breast cancer PT because I became a breast cancer patient.

I have been a physical therapist since 2001, spending the first part of my career in orthopedics. I understood bodies — how they moved, how they broke down, how they healed. Or so I thought.

Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Suddenly I was the patient. And what I experienced in that role changed everything. As I healed from my double breast amputation, I felt the miraculous regeneration of my own fascia. I felt the wisdom in my body. If I could quiet my mind, I could connect on a body level.

I experienced the disorienting loss of part of my identity that comes when cancer shakes your life. I understood, from the inside, exactly what my patients had been trying to describe to me for years.

That experience shifted my focus completely. I left orthopedics and dedicated my practice to breast cancer care — because I know this road, and I know what women on it truly need.

My practice is built on the mind-body connection. Quieting the mind so you can tune into your body. Healing is not just physical — it requires presence, safety, and being truly heard. That is what I bring to every session.

My approach: mind, body, and the connection between them

Physical therapy for breast cancer survivors is not just about moving a shoulder or releasing a scar. It is about helping a woman come back into her body after cancer made it feel foreign and frightening. My practice is rooted in the mind-body connection — quieting the mental noise so you can actually feel what your body needs, and respond to it with care instead of fear.

If you are ready to work with someone who has walked this road — I am here.
